Or something like it.

On the first day of my leave in January 2018, after working through December, my former landlord sent men to start digging to build a new backroom. It was my idea of hell, right in the middle of what I'd hoped would be a relaxing few weeks. My sister and I would spend a few days ducking and diving into the empty Newtown Junction and the cinema there. After that, I spent months saving a little and looking at every rental property ad online, constantly oulling myself back from insanity. But it wasn't all bad.

7 Good Things That Happened in 2018

We moved
What a fucking exhale! God.

2018 was the year I also got a few opportunities to travel. Travel is something that has always been in my heart but, of course, there have been more presaing things in life such as survival. I've gotten to go to Durban twice and add another province to my list with the Eastern Cape. Don't get me wro

Mental Health

I hesitate to even put this here because I didn't do much in this regard; I wasn't in therapy nor did I even sleep much. My neurosis were still lit but, somehow, not as lit. Not in a life-threatening way anyway. I still dragged my body everywhere in 2018 for the most part but it wasn't as bad?

We celebrated Mphiwe's birthday

It was low-key AF but she was happy and I was happy. We are getting so much better and being together and a part of each other's tribe.

I published my first short story
A short story I wrote in 2015 and submitted in 2016 was published in 2018. Nomali Minenhle Cele, published fiction writer. What I liked the most in that the edits weren't hectic.

These were taken of me in the lobby of the Protea Hotel in Umhlanga by Taki of Moving Minds SA

Plus by Bethany Rutter is a street style/style i spiration book. Some time towards the end of 2017 she sent me an email, which I didn't open until she sent a follow up DM, asking to ise one of my pictures in the book. I agreed, sent her the uncropped original Mphiwe took of me sitting on the stoop of our old place. Then I drove it out of my mind, not saying a word in case she had to cut a few pictures or she changed her mind lol. But I made it into the final thing in my R20 trousers from Fashion World, thrifted crew neck and push ins from Jet.

I started posting videos again
I like videos and my return to YouTube this year was a fun experience. I got to be a little more creative and edit and think a little more about the content I want to make going forward. How excited am I about making videos in 2019? I bought a camera specifically for that outlet! No more filming on my phone

More than anything, I think I learnt to choose my sanity even when I am scared out of my mind. I learnt to choose ease and comfort where I could.

How was your 2018?
